It all started on a September day in Cleveland, Ohio, on
the banks of Lake Erie. The Mike Tomlin era kicked off with a 34-7 win over the
Browns, behind an offense led by Ben Roethlisberger.
It was the first win the two combined for. The first of
many in what is now a Steelers record for most regular season wins by a head
coach-quarterback in team history.
With the win over the Falcons on Sunday, Tomlin and
Roethlisberger have combined for 108 wins, surpassing Chuck Noll and Terry Bradshaw,
who combined for 107 regular season wins.
“It’s an honor. It’s humbling,” said Roethlisberger. “To
me it means we have played for a long time. I think it speaks of the tradition
here of keeping one coach for a long time. I think it’s pretty cool to be in
the same category as those guys.”
There have been some memorable wins along the way, from
dominating from the start to overtime comebacks.
Tomlin and Roethlisberger are tied for third in NFL
history for most wins by a coach-quarterback combo with Sean Payton and Drew
Brees (108), and behind Bill Belichick-Tom Brady (199) and Don Shula-Dan Marino
(116).
