COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEK 8 TV SCHEDULE:

HOW TO WATCH WEEK 8
Week 8 may not have as much heat as Week 7 did, but a nice spread of good games should make for a pleasant binge-watch experience.
We’ve hit the midpoint of the season! We still have quite a bit of games left to be played, including a secretly solid Saturday this weekend, but because we’ve seen a good chunk of the season, I think now is a good time to reflect a bit, specifically on last week’s results, for just a moment. As you may remember, in last week’s binge-watch guide, I said that the week has the potential to be very, very good.
Well, it certainly didn’t disappoint. We saw upsets galore, from LSU-Georgia to Michigan State-Penn State, and quite a few awesome games between UCF-Memphis, Oregon-Washington, Baylor-Texas and Notre Dame-Pitt, among others. Oh, and all of those games happened in the afternoon slate, because the NCAA is stupid. There was what felt like a 15 minute period where five different close games were ending at once, and while it was nearly impossible to follow, it was the kind of football euphoria that we love about this sport.
It was a full day of pretty good games, with a three-hour stretch of awesome games. That’s a tough act to follow, and it may be, looking back at the end of the season, the best week of the whole year. Week 8 does have to follow though, and while it isn’t a pretty on paper, I do think it’s got some depth, and lends itself well to binge-watching.
Before we do that though, let’s rank my picks last week, and see how many of my game suggestions were entertaining to watch. After an awesome 7/8 in Week 6, I took a slight step back, hitting on nine of my 11 picks in Week 7, good enough for nearly 82 percent.
Had it not been for BYU-Hawaii and Michigan-Wisconsin, it would’ve been my first perfect week of the season, but I’m still happy with that hit rate. On top of being my second straight great week, Week 7 also moves my yearly average up to 69 percent. Let’s hope for even more from Week 8!
SATURDAY 12:00-3:00
MICHIGAN AT MICHIGAN STATE, 12:00 P.M. EST, FOX
Michigan is headed to the school that has antagonized them for nearly Jim Harbaugh‘s entire tenure, fresh off a huge, emotional win. Michigan State is, of course, a program that feeds entirely on the excitement of others. The happier the other team is, the more hope they have, the better Michigan State plays. Michigan has a lot of hope right now, and Michigan State may have to knock them down a couple fights in the football version of a parking lot fight.
ONE SENTENCE SELL: Mark Dantonio controls the weather, so this will be played in a hail storm.
OKLAHOMA AT TCU, 12:00 P.M. EST, ABC
Oklahoma looks to bounce back after their loss to Texas (and a bye week), as TCU looks to save their season a bit, as if they lose this game it could be a tough road to six wins for the Horned Frogs. This is the first game without Mike Stoops for the Sooners, and TCU’s offense, while sloppy, is a pretty good first test.
ONE SENTENCE SELL: If Oklahoma wants to get back into the playoff race, they have to put on a show in Fort Worth.
SATURDAY 3:30-6:30
COLORADO AT WASHINGTON, 3:30 P.M. EST, FOX
Both teams are coming off of tough losses, and had they won last week this would be a much bigger deal, but it’s still a big matchup that should tell us a lot about the Pac-12 race. Washington should win this game, but Colorado is still very talented, and their offense will give Washington everything it can handle. If the Buffs win, they’re right back in the Pac-12 South race with USC, if they lose, they probably fall out. The same can be said for Washington in the North, as they trail Oregon right now.
ONE SENTENCE SELL: The 3:30 slate isn’t great, and this is one of only a couple interesting matchups.
NC STATE AT CLEMSON, 3:30 P.M. EST, ESPN
This is pretty much the ACC championship game, because the winner would have to lose twice in conference play from here on out while the loser wins out for the loser to win the Atlantic. With how bad everyone else is in this conference, I just don’t see that, and we know the Coastal isn’t challenging either one of these teams in the conference championship.
ONE SENTENCE SELL: Clemson is probably going to win, but NC State played them close each of the last two years. Maybe they have a little magic left to stay undefeated?
SATURDAY 7:00-8:30
MISSISSIPPI STATE AT LSU, 7:00 P.M. EST, ESPN
LSU is coming off of an emotional, physical win over Georgia, and could be beat up a little bit. It also may be a bit difficult to get up for a game against Mississippi State. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs have an awesome defense, and Nick Fitzgerald‘s running ability may cause some problems. I don’t think LSU will lose, but this is worth monitoring.
ONE SENTENCE SELL: This kicks off right as the afternoon games are ending, and should probably be on a second screen or a split-screen with Ohio State-Purdue while Oregon-Washington State is on the main screen.
OHIO STATE AT PURDUE, 7:30 P.M. EST, ABC
Ohio State has looked pretty sloppy each of the last two games, and now their defense, which is awful against big plays, has to play one of the most explosive offenses in the country. The crowd should be awesome, and Ohio State may be on serious upset watch if Purdue is able to get pressure on Dwayne Haskins. Ohio State should be able to move the ball too, so this could get pointsy.
ONE SENTENCE SELL: Big 12 football: Big Ten edition.
OREGON AT WASHINGTON STATE, 7:30 P.M. EST, FOX
For the first time ever, College Gameday is headed to Pullman, and they couldn’t have picked a better time, because this should be an awesome game. The winner will be in control of the Pac-12 North, and Oregon may be a bit beat up after their win over Washington, which gives Wazzu a great shot at the upset. I think the Ducks win, but this should be super fun to watch.
ONE SENTENCE SELL: Speaking of games that may get pointsy, Oregon may not be the Ducks of old, but they can still fill up a scoreboard, as can Wazzu.
For the second time in three weeks, I won’t be picking late night games, because they’re hot trash and you shouldn’t watch them. Arizona-UCLA is one of the worst games of the entire season, and San Diego State is going to destroy a terrible San Jose State team. It’s disappointing to see such a terrible Pac-12 after dark slate, but ultimately, I’ll take any chance I get to catch up on sleep.
