NAMES ALL-STAR GAME MVP

Sidney Crosby scored eight points including five points (2g, 3a) in the final against the Central Division as the Metro Division won the 2019 Honda NHL All-Star Game and its 11 players split the prize of $1 million Saturday night at the SAP Center. Crosby was named the All-Star Game MVP.

Crosby also had three points in the first game (2g, 1a) and eight points (4g, 4a) in the two games as part of the 3-on-3 tournament among the NHL’s four divisions. Crosby scored his first goal just 15 seconds into the first game.

Crosby’s honor was the first time since 1990 in which a Pittsburgh Penguins player earned MVP honors. Mario Lemieux won the 1990 All-Star MVP at the game which was held in Pittsburgh. Lemieux scored just 21 seconds into that game.

This was Crosby’s eighth All-Star appearance and the first time he’s won the award. He has won three Stanley Cups, two Hart trophies, two Conn Smythe awards, two Art Ross trophies and two Maurice “Rocket” Richard trophies.

But never before the All-Star Game MVP.

Crosby missed the skills competition Friday night due to an illness.

Penguins teammate Kris Letang also showed well. Letang had five points (2g, 3a) in the two games.
