O’REILLY, BINNINGTON HELP BLUES PUSH WIN STREAK TO ELEVEN
Ryan O’Reilly scored 34 seconds into overtime and Jordan
Binnington turned aside 31 shots
as the Blues (32-22-5, 69 points) extended their win streak
to a franchise-best 11 contests, the
longest by any team in the NHL this season.
1. The last team
to post a win streak longer than 11 contests was the Blue Jackets’ 16-game run
in 2016-17, which fell one shy of the 1992-93 Penguins
(17-0-0) for the longest in NHL history.
2. O’Reilly, who
leads the Blues with 23-38—61 in 59 GP, matched a career high with his second
overtime goal of 2018-19 (also two in 2011-12 and 2013-14 w/
COL). Only two players in Blues
history have scored more than two overtime goals in a single
season: Doug Weight (3 in 2003-
04) and Vladimir Tarasenko (3 in 2016-17).
3. Binnington
(13-1-1), who joined Andrew Hammond (14-0-1), Patrick Lalime (13-1-1),
Frederik Andersen (13-2-0), Bob Froese (13-1-1) and Wayne
Thomas (13-1-1) as the sixth
goaltender in NHL history to win at least 13 of his first 15
NHL starts, also became the 10th
rookie netminder in NHL history to string together at least
nine consecutive victories.
LIGHTNING WIN SEVEN STRAIGHT FOR THIRD TIME IN 2018-19
Five different players scored and Louis Domingue turned
aside 28 shots to help the Leagueleading Lightning (46-11-4, 96 points) extend
their winning and point streaks to seven and 11
games, respectively. Tampa Bay became the sixth team in NHL
history to record at least three
win streaks of seven or more games in the same season (also
8-0-0 from Nov. 29 - Dec. 13 and
7-0-0 from Dec. 18, 2018 - Jan. 3, 2019).
1. Tampa Bay,
which improved to 9-0-2 in its last 11 games, also posted a 16-game point
streak
earlier this season (15-0-1 from Nov. 29, 2018 - Jan. 3,
2019). They are just the second team in
the last 10 years to record multiple point streaks of at
least 11 contests in a single season. The
other: Chicago in 2012-13 (24 GP from Jan. 19 - March 6,
2013 and 11 GP from March 31 -
April 20, 2013).
2. Domingue has
won each of his last 11 appearances dating to Nov. 29, 2018 (11-0-0, 2.52
GAA, .914 SV%) and holds the longest win streak by a
goaltender in Lightning franchise history.
The last campaign to see a netminder post a win streak
longer than 11 contests was 2016-17,
when Braden Holtby and Sergei Bobrovsky each posted 14-game
runs.
VETERAN GOALTENDERS LEAD TEAMS TO VICTORY
Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist (43 saves) and Ducks
netminder Ryan Miller (31
saves), who rank second and fourth in wins among active
goaltenders, respectively, each
played pivotal roles in their team’s victory on Tuesday.
1. Lundqvist
recorded his 18th career victory in which he has recorded at least 40 saves.
Since
shots on goal became an official statistic in 1955-56, only
one goaltender in Rangers franchise
history has recorded more such victories: Gump Worsley (22).
The win was the 448th of
Lundqvist’s career, moving him within six of tying Curtis
Joseph (454) for sixth on the all-time
list.
2. Fresh off
becoming the winningest U.S.-born goaltender in NHL history on Sunday, Miller
became the fourth different netminder since 2013-14 to
record a shutout at age 38 or older. The
others: Roberto Luongo (4x), Martin Brodeur (4x) and Evgeni
Nabokov (4x). It marked the
44th career shutout for Miller, who ranks second among
U.S.-born goaltenders behind only
Jonathan Quick (51).

KANE, BLACKHAWKS LOOK TO CONTINUE RECENT STRING OF SUCCESS
Patrick Kane aims to extend his assist and point streaks to
18 and 19 games, respectively, as
the Blackhawks (25-26-9, 59 points) continue their push for
a playoff position against the Red
Wings (23-29-8, 54 points) at Little Caesars Arena.
1. Chicago has
won nine of its last 11 games dating to Jan. 20 (9-2-0, 18 points) and sits
only
one point back of Minnesota (27-27-6, 60 points) for the
final Wild Card spot in the Western
Conference standings. When their recent string of success
began on Jan. 20, the Blackhawks
occupied last place in the NHL standings with a record of
16-24-9 (41 points).
2. Kane has found the score sheet in each of the
Blackhawks’ last 18 games dating to Jan. 3 (14-
26—40), the longest point streak in the NHL this season. He
has also collected at least one
helper in each of the Blackhawks’ last 17 games dating to
Jan. 6 (13-26—39), tied for the thirdlongest assist streak in NHL history.
3. The Blackhawks
and Red Wings franchises have met a total of 817 times (regular season and
playoffs combined). The 817 all-time games between the
Blackhawks and Red Wings is the
second-most between two franchises in NHL history, behind
only the Canadiens and Bruins
(923 GP).
FLAMES’ GIORDANO CHASES FIRST 60-POINT SEASON
At 35 years of age, Flames defenseman Mark Giordano (13-44—57
in 57 GP) looks to reach
60 points in a season for the first time in his career when
the Flames (36-16-7, 79 points) host
the Islanders (35-17-6, 76 points) in a clash of Division
leaders.
1. Giordano can
become the sixth different defenseman in Flames franchise history to record at
least 60 points in a season, a feat last achieved by Dion
Phaneuf in 2007-08 (17-43—60 in 82
GP). Additionally, only three blueliners in NHL history have
reached the 60-point mark in a
season at age 35 or older: Nicklas Lidstrom (2005-06,
2006-07, 2007-08 and 2010-11), Al
MacInnis (1998-99 and 2002-03) and Sergei Zubov (2005-06).
