PITTSBURGH
PENGUINS KEEP ON WINNING
As we head into another Forecast Friday, the Pittsburgh Penguins find
themselves in great position, while others…not so much.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are set to face off against the best
team in the Central Division tonight, and it comes at a time where the Penguins
are arguably the hottest team in hockey. This streak is certainly reflected in
the standings as well, as the Pens are just one point behind the Capitals for
first place in the Metropolitan. Here’s a look at the rest of the Eastern
Conference as we head into tonight’s big game.
WHERE IT’S SUNNY
While everyone is excited for what the Penguins have been
able to do, it is also currently being matched by another team in the
Conference, the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Lightning have the best record in
hockey, and just like the Pens have won seven straight games to put themselves
where they are at. They have a game tomorrow against the San Jose Sharks.
The Islanders are also currently on a bit of a win streak,
as they have rattled off five consecutive wins, including most currently a
victory over the Blackhawks. While the Islanders are fourth in the
Metropolitan, they are only just two points behind Pittsburgh in the standings,
so it will be important to keep an eye on them as the season progresses.
WHERE IT’S RAINING
For Detroit and Ottawa, the struggles have been very real,
and both have dropped their last six games. Philadelphia hasn’t been doing much
better, as the Flyers have dropped their last five games as well.
The only bright spot for any of these teams is the
surprising overall home record for the Ottawa Senators. The Sens are 11-7-4 at
home this season, something quite shocking considering where they currently are
in the standings right now.
WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN FOR THE PENS
The Penguins are currently in a tight race in the
Metropolitan, with four teams all within four points of each other in the
division. The Penguins have three home games before heading on their West Coast
trip for the year, so these games at home coming up will be extra important for
Pittsburgh. But if they keep playing like they are right now, it seems nothing
will stop this Pittsburgh team.
