PITTSBURGH RATED TOP
NHL VIEWING MARKET
According to NBC Sports, Pittsburgh fans watched the most
NHL hockey during the 2018-19 regular season.
NBC Sports announced on Monday that the Pittsburgh market,
served by WPXI-TV and NBC Sports Network, led all local NHL markets with a
combined 1.30 household rating for the season.
Pittsburgh also led all markets with a 3.55 rating on NBC
broadcasts. Pittsburgh slightly trailed Buffalo on ratings for NBCSN
broadcasts, 1.08 to 1.02.
Buffalo was the No. 2 overall market in the nation, followed
by Las Vegas, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Tampa, Providence, Chicago, Nashville,
Boston, and Washington.
Pittsburgh edges
out Buffalo for the top NHL market this season! Pittsburgh led all local
markets with a 1.30 household rating for games on NBC and NBCSN. It also led
all markets for NBC games with a 3.55 rating and finished second behind Buffalo
(1.08) for games on NBCSN (1.02).
Games 1, 2 and 4 of the Penguins’ first-round series with
the New York Islanders will be broadcast both on NBCSN and AT&T
SportsNet Pittsburgh. Game 3 on Sunday will be broadcast on NBC.
The NHL Stadium Series game between the Penguins and
Philadelphia Flyers lifted Pittsburgh’s overall numbers. That game, which
averaged 1.969 million viewers, was the most-viewed NHL game on NBC except for
the annual Winter Classic in the last five year, according to NBC.
